WOW!!!
I have been considering an Apple computer for a while now, and have been reluctant to buy because of the high price tag, compared to PCs with similar technical specs. For example, a Dell Inspiron All in One with 4GB SDD3 RAM, 500GB hard drive, 2.8Ghz processor, comparable graphics card and larger, brighter 23" screen retails for 599. For 1199, you can get the same Dell model with a touch screen, 1TB hard drive, 8GB RAM, 1GB video card, and a bunch of other stuff, running Windows 7. That's twice as much computer, right?Maybe not. I went into a Best Buy store to play with a Mac, and spent almost two hours comparing this computer to the ones I just mentioned. I ended up buying the Mac, and am entirely convinced that it is well worth the price tag. First of all, even with less RAM, the Mac was faster and performed much better than a tech spec superior PC. It ran several memory draining and intensive applications, like video editing software, iTunes, and web browsers playing...

First Mac, and I am in LOVE!
I have been using Macs for about 5 years now between school and work. My primary machine has always been a PC. Being a graphic designer, Macs are pretty much the industry standard. That is one of many reasons I bought this iMac.I must say, I love this computer. It took me less than 15 minutes from opening the box, unpacking the computer, plugging it in, starting it, and set up. And 10 minutes of that was taking it out of the box, taking the protective wraps off of things, etc.The initial setup was a breeze. It automatically recognized the keyboard and mouse (both Bluetooth), easily connected to my network (after I typed in the password), and bam, we were up and running. Since I never had a Mac before, I didn't have a backup that would put all my files on the computer, but I keep all of my files on an external hard drive anyways. There have been a few bumps in getting used to doing certain things on the Mac compared to the PC. However, Apple...

Apple iMac MC309LL/A 21.5-Inch Desktop
I first bought an iMac in 2006. It was the same first model out of four. Not only it lasted me until now, but since I bought this one few days ago, I gave my old one to my wife's sister. I'm sure it will keep going and going for years.Right now, it is better than ever to buy a new iMac. I remember when I bought mine, the whole line-up was good. But then they gave lower-priced iMacs much worse specs than higher-priced ones, especially in terms of video cards. So, if you wanted something good all around, you had to spend more money and buy third or even fourth one in iMac's line-up. Not anymore. Every single one has the same RAM, all of them have descrete video cards, and even Quad-Core processors. Not only that, but they are the newest i5 Quad-Core processors, Intel Sandybridge. Even if you take a look at various tests done by different websites, they will tell you that there is not that big of a difference between iMac line-up nowadays. It'll be about 10% or so in speed...

Worth the expense.
My old PC was over 4 years old and just not keeping up any more. I didn't consider getting a Mac until I'd kicked around the idea of learning iOS programming which requires OSX. After looking at the prices of these computers I balked, I could build a bleeding edge "Hackintosh" for what they were asking and still have money left over! A little research into installing OSX onto a non-Apple machine nipped that in the bud, it seems more headache than it's worth. So I sucked it up and bought an iMac and wow am I glad I did. The specs may not be top of the line, but everything else about this computer is!First, the hardware. The screen is the most obviously amazing thing here, it makes the very nice Viewsonic monitors on my Windows box look washed out and blurry in comparison. Colors are vibrant, text is crisp, pixels are nearly invisible. If you're deciding between this and the larger iMacs, the 21" looks huge on my desk and I can't imagine how monstrous the 27" would...

You haven't converted yet?
I have been a life long Windows guy. I love Windows, even to this day. I was plopped in front of a computer when I was about 5 years old the first time, and the computer that I was sat in front of was a Windows machine. Now, 23 years later, I can say I've honestly spent my whole life using Windows machines, and loving them. I even have a Windows 7 machine that I'm still really into, because Windows 7 is just a phenomonal OS, and in my opinion Microsofts best version of Windows yet.I honestly never had the need to even consider buying an Apple computer, especially with the extremely high price tag and the elitist attitude that "Mac people" exude. I just figured it was all hype and people needing a way to be different, and feel special. But then I started trouble shooting computers on a daily basis. Mostly Windows machines, honestly, and I just got tired of dealing with them, and the issues they had. I came to realize that Windows machines have a learning curve for most people,...

If you want the best that money can buy
This iMac takes up minimal desk space, has absolutely no wires (except power), yet still has really rocking specs. I setup Boot Camp, so that I can dual-boot to either Windows or MacOS (because I need to be able to run some Windows-specific software for work). Running Windows on this machine is like watching a non-HD channel on an HD TV, though...as soon as I boot to Windows, I look forward to booting back to MacOS. MacOS has the stability of Unix/Linux, but with a GUI that's more crisp and fresh than Windows. The hardware is an excellent product. They do make a 27" model, too, which seems better, at least on paper. But that big of a screen on my desk would look ridiculous. This 21" looks a little large on my desk, but the look works, because the iMac's appearance is so simple and clean. This is the first Apple computer that I have ever owned (or used), and now that I own one, I can't think of a single reason that I would want to own any other computer...

Sick of fighting your Windows PC?
First of all, I'm not a gamer, and this is not a gamers rig. Don't get me wrong, it has very capable graphics, but there aren't many good games available for the Mac OSX.No biggie for me, I produce music, and Mac is well known for fitting the bill in this area. Paired with Logic, making music couldn't be easier.Windows was another story.I don't have a lot of cash to burn, but I hear a lot of criticism from Windows users about how "overpriced" Mac is. Well as somebody who has been through Windows '95,'98, XP and Vista and Windows 7, I have spent SO MUCH freaking time repairing Windows-related issues as opposed to just enjoying Windows applications.I don't want to spend all day trying to figure one more cryptic, Windows error code.I bought my Imac almost one year ago, and everything JUST WORKS, the way it is supposed to. No viruses, no BLUE SCREENS, no crashes... I HAVE had a couple of issues that were directly my own fault...

Best entry level mac EVER!
*** This model has only been out for TWO weeks so the guy saying he has "owned it for 18 months" has a different model****The NEW I3 intel processor is ridiculously fast compared to my older dual core imac (2.0ghz 3gb ) The value of the machine really speaks for itself. LED SCREEN!! The ram is upgradeable to 8gig and the new ATI video card is supposed to rock ;although, I have not really tested it out yet. Spend the extra 160$ to get the apple protection plan, especially on this newly updated one.

Fast, Loaded, but Check Your Display for Yellow
I anxiously awaited this summer 2010 update to the iMac line.iMacs offer a better value than one might think, and the space saving they offer compared to having many components spread out on a desk, make them an attractive offering from Apple. My current iMac was an aging model, summer 2007. The first iMac with aluminum enclosure. Honestly, however, it is not far off the machines of today particularly notebook models. The iMacs are aging nicely, and I'm sure this new model will too. iMacs tend to offer a better value than notebooks and because they aren't carried around, can have better reliability / longevity too. When I opened this new computer, I loved the widescreen display. This display is 16x9 similar to a television, whereas conventional widescreen computer monitors were 16x10 (including my old iMac). The extra width gives you more room to fit documents across your desktop (screen) while working. I like that.Furthermore, don't let...

My First Mac, I'm Thrilled!
I'm 50 years old and have been using PCs all adult life for work and home. I've had what I consider to be very good PCs & Laptops over the years. I NEVER thought I would switch over to a Mac because I'm not into gaming and I'm not an artist. But I just made the switch and I'm thrilled, to say the least! The analogy that comes to mind between the two is this...I liken my current (and past) excellent quality, loaded Laptop PC to a strong, healthy work horse. It looks nice, it feels and looks strong, and I have no doublt it can get the job done. We have a good relationship, we're buddies. But I liken the iMac to an Arabian stallion! It's simply gorgeous to look at and touch, it's muscles are rippling and glistening with strength- it has unfettered energy, and it can take me places I can't even imagine right now! But don't get me wrong... if there was crap behind the screen and inside the housing, no amount of good looks could make up for it. What I'm...

My first Mac, love it!
After 25+ years of using PC's (started in the MS DOS days) I got my first Mac, and I love it! Just an FYI, I ordered this model direct from Apple using an education discount, plus upgraded the processor to the dual core i5, but everything else is the same as the model above including screen, GPU, RAM, and Hard drive. The screen is gorgeous! It has a tiny taint of "discoloration" towards the bottom of the screen (some people have referred to it as yellow), but it doesn't bother me, I hardly notice it all, and I only bring it b/c some hardcore mac users do test after test looking for this "defect". My machine is lighting fast, and ultra quiet. It gets a little hot at the top, but what do you expect for an entire desktop encased in aluminum?I own an iphone and an iPad, but as a new mac user this was a breeze to set up. It took me a while to perfect the transfer of my itunes library as I'm very particular about not duplicating files, but now its all set up. I set up...

This is a remarkable computer for the home user...
I have had this computer for a week now and absolutely love it. The Magic Mouse took a little time to adjust to, but now it is a favorite. The iMac screen is large (I upgraded from the 17" early 2006 intel iMac), but not so big as to be distracting. Apple, of course, made the experience of setting it up and getting online a breeze, even to the point of having the batteries already installed in the keyboard and mouse, and having the two linked to the computer. The pros include the beauty of the LED screen, the speed of the processor, the fact that it shipped with 4GB of ram, well...that it is every bit the consumer friendly machine I have come to expect from Apple. The upgraded graphics card really is noticeable. It is like a vase of flowers...I love to look at it even when it is off. The SD card slot is most handy. It is every bit as quiet as my previous computer. The cons include the fact that my 3.5 year old iMac had a matte screen, and the glass front of this 21.5 "...

First Mac - Now I know why Mac users are so loyal
I have been buying PCs for over 15 years and this is my first Mac. I had been considering a Mac over more recent years and decided to take the plunge after hearing other rave reviews of existing users and seeing how superior an IPOD is over a standard MP3 player. I can say that I was not disappointed.First, there's no learning curve at all, and you can easily make the transition from PC to Mac. I could not say the same about going from windows XP to Vista, which was incredibly frustrating and I consider myself somewhat tech savvy. The operating system is intuitive and very simple to use. I did not really have to search for much of anything or how to do anything. It's that straight forward. The most obvious thing that you see immediately is it's simplicity. A monitor with all the typical tower stuff integrated (as well as the speakers), a wireless keyboard and mouse. You literally have one wire running from the monitor to the wall if you have wireless...

Five Reasons to Buy This Computer
You can read elsewhere for tech specs or geek rantings, but here's my "I've got it set up as my family computer" five point review:FAST: this computer screams, doing about anything you need it to without annoying pauses.STYLE: yes, it does look like a fashion statement. And lest you say, "I just care about how it performs"-- you probably have other possessions that you admire their beauty--- some of your clothes, furniture, perhaps your car--- why shouldn't you be able to admire your computer as well? Apple says "YES YOU CAN!"SILENT: its internal fans and hard drive are so well designed that it's very hard to hear any noise. I didn't expect that to be a big deal but I can really notice the difference between my old computer's noise level and my new iMac.THE SCREEN: yes, it's a thing of beauty, bright, crisp, big, in full HD resolution that you can use to do any type of computing or watch a movie in complete comfort.THE OS:...

Key Features

Big, Beautiful Display Combined with All-In-One Simplicity

The evolution of the Apple iMac.
The new iMac has come a long way from the first 15-inch iMac. The all-in-one design of the first flat-panel iMac cleaned up the desktop, and put everything you need--display, processor, graphics card, hard drive, optical drive, memory, and more--inside one simple enclosure. New technology inside and out makes the new iMac a worthy addition to the all-in-one dynasty.

This 21.5-inch model features an edge-to-edge glass display that covers nearly the entire front of the enclosure. When all you see is the display, nothing gets between you and what's onscreen. Movies, TV shows, websites, photos--everything looks stunning on the new 16:9 widescreen iMac display. And the LED backlighting in the new iMac helps push more light through the pixels with remarkable brightness and efficiency. And because the LED backlight doesn't take up much space, the iMac enclosure stays thin--even with all the high-performance components inside.

The iMac display is designed to look great from almost any angle. A technology called in-plane switching (IPS) makes this possible. Whether you're sitting in front of the display or standing off to the side, you'll get a perfect picture with superb color consistency and no loss of detail.

The wider iMac display allows more room to separate the two hottest components, the CPU and the GPU. This keeps things cool inside the iMac enclosure. Apple engineers also implemented an intelligent control system that monitors temperatures and delivers just the right amount of airflow to critical components. And the three fans inside iMac have been tuned to be ultraquiet.

While you'll find a collection of ports on the back of iMac, you won't find much else. A seamless, precision-forged enclosure makes the back one continuous aluminum surface. And there's only one cord: the power cord.

Wireless Magic Mouse and Keyboard
Forget the mouse as you know it. Every iMac comes with the wireless Magic Mouse: the world's first Multi-Touch mouse. Use it once and you'll wonder how you ever used anything else. There's no scroll ball, no clunky wheel, no cord, and no visible button. Instead, the Magic Mouse uses Multi-Touch technology to let you control everything with simple gestures. Give them a try and you'll find that Magic Mouse changes the way you interact with your computer. Built-in software lets you configure Magic Mouse any way you want. Its smooth, seamless design is ambidextrous, and it supports two-button clicking--without buttons.

The iMac banishes desktop clutter completely with a wireless keyboard to go with the wireless Magic Mouse. This low-profile keyboard takes up less desk space--24 percent less--than larger keyboards. There's no numeric keypad, so you can place your mouse comfortably next to the keyboard. And built-in Bluetooth means there are no cables to connect.

Built-in Wi-Fi
High-speed 802.11n wireless technology is built into iMac. And with Time Capsule or the AirPort Express Base Station, every computer in every room can wirelessly connect to iMac, the Internet, and each other. @ Design

Because Apple designs both hardware and software, we can reduce our environmental footprint in ways others can't. For starters, a highly efficient power supply reduces the amount of power wasted when bringing electricity from the wall to your Mac. Unlike a lot of PCs, a Mac uses energy-efficient hardware components that work hand in hand with the operating system to conserve power--even between keystrokes.

A Mac also doesn't contain a lot of toxic materials. All Mac displays are mercury and arsenic free, and the internal components are free of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and brominated flame retardants (BFRs).

Efficient Power Supply
The iMac includes a highly efficient power supply that reduces the amount of power wasted when bringing electricity from the wall to your computer. Lower power consumption reduces energy bills and lessens the environmental impact of greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.

Advanced Power Management
Unlike a lot of Windows-based PC systems, iMac uses energy-efficient hardware components that work hand in hand with the operating system to conserve power. Mac OS X spins down hard drives and activates sleep mode on already energy-efficient LED-backlit displays. And it balances tasks across both central processors and graphics processors. Mac OS X never misses a power-saving opportunity, no matter how small. It even regulates the processor between keystrokes, reducing power between the letters you type. That's just one of many ways Apple manages small amounts of power that add up to big savings.

ENERGY STAR Qualification
The iMac meets the stringent low power requirements set by the EPA, making it ENERGY STAR qualified. ENERGY STAR 5.0 sets significantly higher efficiency limits for power supplies and aggressive limits for the computer's typical annual power consumption.

Elegant and powerful, it simply works
I've been a PC users since the PCXT days. Now I have a mac. I really have been suprised at how easy it is to learn the mac way of doing things.I'm a programmer by trade (not a desktop coder, but mainframe/database) and I actually decided to buy the iMac because of my desire to create apps for my iPhone. I was shocked to learn that I could keep my windows environment. I could have both worlds. So far, everything has been very easy to install and use. I had the windows/vmware setup and the iPhone SDK install the first day. Coming from a PC, I'm delighted at how elegant the interface is, even the mouse and keyboard are elegant. The screen is very nice. Colors seem very good, but I haven't done any photo editing and color correction/matching (so you'll have to get the pros opinion on that one).Windows runs very well on it and I've had no problems with it.I can't see changing back to a PC for my uses (not a gamer). This iMac was the...

Over this network, everyone can print, surf the web, and play music on iTunes through your home stereo--wirelessly.

iSight Webcam
Hidden behind the glass display at the top of iMac is an iSight camera. Use it with iChat, and you can be anywhere without actually being there. Video chat with up to three of your friends, share a video with a colleague, or present to a client. Use iSight with Photo Booth for fun photo effects. And there's no need to waste valuable primping time installing software or configuring the camera.

The extra width gives you more room to fit documents across your desktop (screen) while working. iMacs offer a better value than one might think, and the space saving they offer compared to having many components spread out on a desk, make them an attractive offering from Apple. The $1199 model is the RIGHT choice, unless you “know,” you need the specific benefits of the 1499 model (larger hard drive and faster graphics processor). A 500 GB hard drive being standard on this model will be plenty for all but the hard drive pack rats out there. The 1499 model gives you a larger hard drive (1 TB over 500 GB, so twice the size), and it has a faster graphics processor, which is useful when gaming and in other graphic intensive applications. 5 inch model because my desk is simply too small to house the 27-inch model. While optical media is less popular today, do not forget this iMac can play DVDs and burn DVDs. My current iMac was an aging model, summer 2007. The iMacs are aging nicely, and I’m sure this new model will too. The iMacs are great values over notebooks, if you don’t need portability. Why choose this 1199 model over the 1499 21.
