High Quality Chains
Overall, I was very impressed with the quality of these chains. Call me old school but I grew up with a father that put "chains" on his truck, not cables or Z cables or some other "traction" device --- these are Chains, they look like chains and they feel like chains when you drive. That said, they're an upgrade to old school chains because they are easier to to install and keep tight, the design provides more traction than normal chains, and the chains are made of a tougher alloy. There are a lot of products out there on the market from cables to chain products. These are kindof a hybrid product. Let me explain. The inside of the chain is actually a cable coated in thick blue plastic that makes it easy for you to know what side goes on the inside and what side goes on the outside. O.K., but something's missing...
This volume is satisfactory in that it presents Land Rover vehicles in action with many colorful photos and good text, but the content belies its sub title("British 4-Wheel Drive from 1948"), for it shows very few photos of Land Rover vehicles between 1948 and the Defender model from the late '80s. A bit disappointing for "early" Rover enthusiasts. But great for Defender owners!

A good place to start.
I was expecting a better cross section of Land Rover Defenders throughout the years. The book did concentrate on Defenders, but the earlier models were basically museum pieces. I would like to have seen more of a model by model breakdown. This is a picture book of defenders in all sorts of predicaments. Not a pretty sight. You have to give Land Rover credit for not being afraid to show their vehicles in the worst light. This book is an extremely easy read. If you consider the price of this book it's not a bad buy at all. Would recommend.

Great, easy to use chains
I have used these chains for 2 seasons and have driven hundreds of miles on them. I love them and will never use another chain. They are quick and easy to attach. I am frequently in and out of the "chain-up area" before other drivers have even straightened out their chains. The low profile, 9mm chain links make for comfortable driving even at higher speeds. I use them on a 2008 Subaru Impreza Outback. The owner's manual for this car says to never use chains or cables because they may interfere with the anti-lock brakes and steering mechanisms. This is apparently typical for smaller sports cars. But the state police won't always let me up the pass without chains installed, despite AWD and all-weather tires. I took the chains and the car to the Subaru dealership, had them put the car on a lift and install the chains. The dealership said they were fine and would not interfere with sensitive parts. I have been using these chains without issue, and after 2 seasons they show...

I've never put chains on before and these are a cinch!
I have a two year old and don't have a lot of time for trying to figure out how to get some chains on the tires while she's waiting in the car so we can get home up our mile long dirt driveway up a mountain to get the groceries in the fridge and start dinner. These are PERFECT! Very easy to get on and off. The car doesn't even slip on the tricky switch back turns that are the toughest. One little tip: when you're sliding the chain behind the tire and you get a bunch of ice/slush/dirt stuck in the tip where the other end needs to go in, just whack it against the tire to clear it out. I love my chains and feel so much more safe and secure having them in the car in the winter.

Great chains, lousy cable
These chains work great in the snow. I drove about 20 miles in a Northern Vermont snow squall using these chains. Unfortunately, I noticed, when I was taking them off, that the cable that holds the chains on the side of the tire was broken after using them this one time. I will be contacting Thule ASAP to discuss warranty coverage. They run about 165 - 170 bucks a pair.
